Recommender System Guidelines

One of our goals at Nutaku is to make sure that you get to find the next game that you will fall in love with. So we do our best to make sure that games are easy to discover and easy to start playing. In this page we talk about how we display our platform content to you in the attempt to accomplish that goal. Nutaku Doesn’t Use Recommendation Engines

As of this publication date, Nutaku does not make use of any recommendation engines in order to display content. Nutaku does employ a variety of automated systems that take many metrics into account in order to select and display content, but these metrics are not personalized on a user-by-user basis and none take into account your individual habits when using the platform. Different users may face slightly different experiences based on how they access Nutaku: content availability may change based on your current device, region, and language. That being said, all Nutaku users can expect to have more or less the same overall experience on the platform, regardless of how long they have been using it, or how they have been using it.

Top Ranking Games and Keeping Content Fresh

Games may be grouped together taking into account a variety of aspects, such as device availability, price, popularity, etc.

In each of those groups, Nutaku has to make a decision in regard to how to sort these games, or in other words, which games should be displayed first in each group. The default sorting option for many of our groups is “Top Ranking”, which is also sometimes referred to as “Most Popular”. This sorting option takes into account games’ performances, with higher performing games being displayed first. Nutaku evaluates game performance through a combination of metrics such as daily players or game engagement, each with variable weights of importance. Most groups use this sorting option by default, as high performing games tend to provide the high quality of gameplay experience that we want users to know Nutaku for.

As many of our games are live-service experiences that receive constant new game updates, game performance often shifts over time. Our systems take that into account when sorting and displaying games by evaluating game performance on an on-going basis. This makes it so that the sorting of games may change, ensuring that the games displayed first continue to be an accurate representation of their particular group and pertinent to users.

Main Types of Nutaku Games

While games are grouped taking into account a variety of parameters (such as language, release date, etc.), the entire Nutaku library is essentially composed of the following main types of games:

• Free-to-Play Games: games that do not require any initial or on-going purchase in order to be played. Users are also not required to provide any payment information in order to play these games. These games often feature optional in-game transactions that users can conduct in order to receive additional rewards or enhance their play experience. These games often require users to maintain an active internet connection in order to be played.
• Paid Games: games that require an initial purchase in order to be played. Often these games do not feature any in-game transactions. These games do not require users to maintain an active internet connection in order to be played. In other words, they can be accessed and played while offline.
• PC Browser Games: games that can be played directly from the user’s computer browser. No download or installation required.
• PC Client Games: games that require users to download and install them before being played. They also require a compatible operational system (OS) in order to be played.
• Mobile Browser Games: games that can be played directly from the user’s mobile browser, regardless of their OS (e.g. Android or iOS). No download or installation required.
• Android Client: also known as “Android App” or “Android Apk”, these games need to be installed in the user’s Android device in order to be played.
• Android Streaming: games that can be played directly from the user’s Android browser through the use of Cloud Gaming technology. These are games that were either not available to be played directly from the device’s browser, or that provide a better and more accessible experience through cloud streaming. No download or installation required.
• iOS Streaming: games that can be played directly from the user’s iOS browser through the use of Cloud Gaming technology. These are games that were either not available to be played directly from the device’s browser, or that provide a better and more accessible experience through cloud streaming. No download or installation required.

Home Page Rows

Most of the content that we have in the Nutaku Home Page is displayed through what we call Game Rows, which are scrollable sections of the website featuring multiple game thumbnails. Each of these game rows has a title that more or less communicates why these specific games have been grouped together. The following are the rows you will find in our homepage, and a brief explanation about the logic that is used to select and order these games:

• Continue Playing: this row is only displayed if you have previously played a game on the platform. All games that you have played are displayed here, sorted by when you have played them. Games that you have played the most recently are displayed first. You can also manually remove any games displayed here, in case you don’t want to see them anymore.
• Most Popular Free “Device” Games: the title and content of this row changes depending on which device you are currently using (e.g. Android, iOS, a Windows Computer, etc). This row presents a list of the most popular free games available on your device, sorted by top ranking.
• Games in __ Language: this row is only displayed if you are currently using Nutaku with a language other than English. The title of this row is adjusted to reflect the currently selected language. This row displays a list of games that have in-game content that is available in the language that is currently selected, sorted by top ranking.
• Limited Time Game Offers and Events: displays a list of current live in-game events. Events displayed are sorted by top ranking.
• Top Free “Different Device” Games: the title and content of this row changes depending on which device you are currently using. This row presents a list of the most popular free games available on a different device than the one you are currently using. For example, it may display mobile games when you are accessing Nutaku from your computer, and vice versa. Games displayed in this row are sorted by top ranking, with most popular games being displayed first.
• Most Popular New “Device” Releases: the title and content of this row changes depending on which device you are currently using. Games are displayed and sorted in this row taking into account when they have been released and how popular they currently are. This row also displays a combination of both Free and Paid games.
• Top 10 in Country: this row displays ten games taking into account only data available from users in the same country as yours. In other words, these games represent those that are popular among other users in your country. Most popular games are displayed first in ascending order (i.e. number 1 game is more popular than number 2, and so on).
• Newly Released Free Games: this row displays free games only taking into account their release date. Newest released games (which may include new device versions of already existing games) are displayed first in the row.
• Nutaku Picks: this row displays a collection of games that has been manually curated by the Nutaku team to be showcased. This row content and sorting is performed manually. This row is updated periodically, taking into account a vast combination of metrics collected by Nutaku (including but not limited to those discussed in the “Top Ranking Games and Keeping Content Fresh” section).
• Upcoming and Pre-Registration Games: this row displays games that have been announced at the platform, but that cannot be currently played. Some of these games may also be available for pre-registration. Games are displayed by release date, with newest games being displayed first.
• Most Popular Paid Games: this row displays a list of paid games, sorted by top ranking. Most popular games are displayed first.
• Newly Released Paid Games: this row displays paid games only taking into account their release date. Newest released games (which may include new device versions of already existing games) are displayed first in the row.
• Early Access Games For “Device”: the title and content of this row changes depending on which device you are currently using and your current location. This row presents a list of games that are available in Early Access in the user’s region, sorted by release date.

As you may see, many of the rows available in the home page may feature or sort games based on whether they are popular or a top ranking game. If you are interested in learning more about some of the metrics that we use to define that, please refer to the “Top Ranking Games and Keeping Content Fresh” section.

New Visitor Experience and Not Sure Where to Start Section

Users that visit the Nutaku platform for the first time (or are visiting from a new browser) will face a few unique sections catered to these visitors.

One such unique section you will find in this variant of the home page is the “Not Sure Where to Start Section”. This section is intended to provide some initial guidance to users, showcasing games within three distinct categories. Each of these categories is focused on a different type of gameplay experience that users may be looking for. Games are selected as part of each category taking into account their Tags and Genres of games.

The following is some information about each of the different categories, including how games are selected and sorted on each:

• Casual and Quick To Play: this section displays games based on how easy and quick to play they are. These games are easy to start playing, do not feature overly complex gameplay, and do not require many hours of daily engagement in order to be enjoyed to their fullest.
• Hentai Games with Tons of Hardcore Lewd Content: this section displays games focused on their content, rather than gameplay. Therefore, a variety of different gameplay genres may be featured in this section. These games emphasize adult content, be it on their theme or the vast amount of adult scenes they may feature.
• Deep Strategy Games: this section displays games based on their level of gameplay depth and/or complexity. These games feature a multitude of in-game systems that challenge players and may keep them playing for a long time.

Each of these categories takes into account a unique list of tags and genres that has been manually curated, and displays only games that feature all the matching tags/genres. For example, the “Casual and Quick To Play” category has a list of tags that includes “Casual” as one of its required tags. All games showcased in this category will at least have the “Casual” tag (as otherwise they wouldn’t be displayed). Each list contains multiple tags/genres, and games require to match all predetermined tags in order to be displayed in any of these categories.

In order to avoid repetition, all games displayed in this section are unique, meaning that even if a game would match the required tags/genres for multiple categories, it is only displayed in one of them (the topmost category). Games are also displayed and sorted in this section based on Top Ranking, with most popular games being displayed first.

Nutaku Announcements Section

The Nutaku Announcements section is displayed in the home page of the website and features a carousel with banners that communicate about pertinent platform related news, such as Nutaku events and promotions. All content in this section is manually curated by the Nutaku team, including which banners are displayed, for how long, and the specific order in which they are shown.

Search Feature

Nutaku has a search feature to help you find the games that you’re interested in. When you input a text in our search feature, it doesn’t only try to find matches based on game titles, but also other game data, such as their tags and genres. You will notice that we display a few different filter tabs in the search feature. These tabs allow you to filter your search results according to particular parameters. The following are the different tab filters available in our search tool, and how each filter out content:

Tabs filters:

• All: the default search tab filter. Displays all games that match the searched text in at least one of the available parameters: the game’s title, all genres, and all tags.
• Title only searches for matches with the games’ titles. Displays games that feature some (or all) of the searched text in their title.
• Genre: only searches for matches with genres. Displays all games that feature the genre that is being searched.
• Tag: only searches for matches with tags. Displays all games that feature the tag that is being searched.

All games displayed in the search feature are sorted based on top ranking, with most popular games being displayed first.

Games Page

The Games page, also known as the Games Catalog page, allows users to view all games that are available on the Nutaku library. When directly visiting this page (often through the top navigation), the default catalog tab will be set to “All”, meaning that no filtering is currently being applied. The games catalog includes a variety of filters and sorting options which can be used to better search for and view games according to criteria that may be relevant to you. Some of these filter options include being able to filter games based on their tags, genre, platform/device, language, price, among others.

The games catalog also features a variety of filter tabs that allows the content of the page to be filtered according to specific preset criteria. The following are the tabs available in the catalog page, and the preset logic that they use to filter games in the catalog when active:

Tabs:

• All: the default tab. Displays all games available in the library.
• Free Games: only display free games.
• Paid Games: only display paid games.
• Hot New Releases: displays games taking into account how recently they have been released, as well as their popularity.
• Upcoming: displays games that have been announced at the platform, but that cannot be currently played. Some of these games may also be available for pre-registration.
• On Sale: displays paid games that are currently on sale.
• Early Access^*: display games that are available in Early Access.

^* Games in Early Access haven’t been officially launched yet and are only available to be played in select regions. This tab may not be displayed if there are no such games available in your region.

By default, all games in the catalog are sorted by “Most Popular”, with the most popular games being displayed first. Users, however, have the ability to change the sorting of the game catalog. The following are the sorting options available in the catalog page, and how they sort the games:

Sorting options:

• Most Popular: the default filter. Games are sorted based on their popularity.
• Newest: games are sorted based on release date, with newest games being displayed first.
• Price Lowest^*: games are sorted based on their price, with lowest price games being displayed first.
• Price Highest^*: games are sorted based on their price, with highest price games being displayed first.
• Alphabetical: games are sorted alphabetically, based on their title.

^* Price related sorting options are not available if the “Free” filter is active, or if a combination of active filters results in only free games being displayed.

For most sorting options, “Most Popular” is used as a complementary sorting logic in case multiple games would be displayed in the same position. For example, if “Price Lowest” is selected but multiple games have the same price, most popular games will be displayed first.

Events Page

In addition to the Limited Time Offers and Events row in the home page, Nutaku also has a fully dedicated events page that showcases all the in-game events that are currently active. Each game is responsible for managing their own events, and there are no standardized start and end dates for events. Because of this, some events may be displayed for a longer period than others. The following are the sorting options available in the events page, and how they sort the available events:

Sorting options:

• Most Popular: the default filter. Events are sorted based on the corresponding game’s popularity.
• Newest: events are sorted based on when they have started, with newer events (those that have started more recently) being displayed first.
• Ending Soon: events are sorted based on how much time is left before the event ends, with events that are closer to ending being displayed first.

Tags and Genres

Tags and Genres are used at Nutaku in order to best categorize games, making it easier to find specific games, while at the same time providing some quick information about what users can expect of any given game. In the Nutaku home page and side navigation users can find lists of tags and genres, which direct users to the game catalog with their corresponding filters enabled. The following are the lists of tags and genres that you may find on Nutaku, and how their content is sorted:

• Trending Genres: displays a list of genres. Genres are sorted based on new game releases, with genres present in new games being displayed first.
• Trending Tags and Hottest Tags: displays a list of tags. Tags are sorted based on new game releases, with tags present in new games being displayed first.

Additionally, tags and genres can also be accessed through their directory page, which contains the following sorting options:

• Popular: sorts tags/genres based on the number of games that feature it. Tags/genres featured in more games are displayed first.
• Alphabetical: sorts tags/genres according to their name, in ascending order.

News and Updates Page

The News page, also known as News and Updates, is the main Nutaku hub for a variety of news, including Nutaku articles, game updates, event news, and more. The following is a list of the different sections you will find in this area of the website, and how content is displayed in them:

• Article Showcase: this section showcases a single main article. This article is manually curated by the Nutaku team, including which article is showcased and the duration in which it is showcased.
• Featured News: this section showcases a small number of articles. These articles are manually curated by the Nutaku team, including which articles are showcased, the duration in which they are showcased, and the order in which they are displayed in the page.
• Recent Articles: displays all non-game updates articles. Articles are sorted by publication date, with newer articles being displayed first.
• Game Updates: display game update articles. Articles are sorted by publication date, with newer articles being displayed first.
